Is Stamped Concrete Slippery?

Texture, sealer, slope and maintenance all affect traction in Oregon rain.

01

It can be

Deep texture can create grip, but some patterns have broad smooth high points. High-gloss film-forming sealers can become slick when wet, especially with algae or debris.

02

Choose texture around use

A covered patio, exposed entry and pool edge face different water. Test sample texture with the household’s footwear and mobility needs in mind.

03

Specify the sealer

Penetrating and film-forming sealers behave differently. Traction additives can be mixed into some products. The written finish should identify sheen and additive rather than just say “sealed.”

04

Drainage reduces risk

Even a textured surface is less safe when water ponds. Establish slope and outlets before decorative decisions. Keep downspouts from continually wetting walking routes.

05

Maintain the surface

Clean organic growth, monitor worn sealer and follow product recoat guidance. More sealer is not automatically safer or better. Ask how the chosen system will age.

Turn research into a site-specific plan.

Online guidance can narrow choices, but elevations, soil, access and use determine the actual scope. A free site walk replaces assumptions with a written proposal.
